1957 Simca Vedette Versailles, VIN 202056

In the 1950s, Americans who wished to travel to Europe frequently purchased cars there, and then brought them back to the United States.  Such is the early history of this Simca.

Originally purchased by Marie Willoughby, showing an address of 115 Champs d’ Elysee, Paris while she was living and travelling around Europe.  Decals applied to the rear window indicate the various European cities Ms. Willoughby had travelled to, including Lucerne, Zurich, Hamburg, and Frankfurt. Shortly after her stay in Paris, Ms. Willoughby shipped to the Simca to California, where it would stay in her possession until 1990.  In 1990 the Simca was sold to a San Francisco furniture artist, and designer, and builder.

The second owner had the Simca repainted its original color of black, with a white roof.  At the same time, the second owner had the interior sympathetically restored.  The seats were re-trimmed, as well as the door panels.  The headliner, and rubber mats are still original, and show some nice patina.

The third owner purchased the car in Sept., of 1990 and had contracted a major mechanical restoration.

This Simca still retains its original Ford-based 2.4 liter flathead V-8, that has been restored.  The Engine block was magnafluxed, and bored .030, custom pistons, and custom rings, machined cylinder heads, polished crankshaft, new rod bearings, and wrist pins installed.  At the time the engine was detailed, and painted correctly.  All of the engine components were restored as well, including the carburetor, starter, and generator.

Believed to have the 72,958 km shown on the odometer, and comes with its original French license plates, California black plates, the original French “Certiicat”, repair manual, the owner’s maintenance manual, and numerous restoration, and service invoices.  A current Massachusetts title will be supplied.
